Bengaluru Steel flyover: National Green Tribunal reserves verdict

The green tribunal to hear further submissions by the Govt, L&T on Wednesday.

Bengaluru: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), southern bench, on Wednesday reserved for pronouncement of judgment on the controversial steel flyover from Chalukya Circle to Hebbal. Liberty is granted to the parties to file written submissions within a week.

The date for announcement of the judgment is likely to be announced in a couple of days. The counsels appearing for the State of Karnataka, L&T and State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) made submissions opposing the application filed by Citizens’ Action Forum (CAF) and others.

Detailed submissions by way of rejoinder were submitted on behalf of CAF, rebutting each and every submission made by BDA, State of Karnataka and L&T.

The Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) has asked for a third party analysis on the environmental impact that the proposed steel flyover construction will have on the city.

The counsel appearing for the Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) has concluded his submissions stating that the project is an upgradation of the road which is not under eco-sensitive zone and thus is exempt from the environmental impact analysis. The bench adjourned the hearing to Wednesday.

The petitioners - CAF and CbF said they are not giving it up and have enough grounds to prove that the project will need environment clearance. The further submissions by the State government and L&T will he heard on Wednesday.
