Chennai/Puducherry: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi on Monday reached Puducherry, via Chennai, on a private visit. The sudden visit of Priyanka to Chennai airport along with other passengers created hullabaloo at the airport as onlookers and fellow passengers gazed at her.
According to Puducherry official sources, Priyanka was on a private visit to encourage her daughter Maria Vadra who will be participating in the national sub junior basketball tournament starting on Tuesday. Members of the Congress first family have made it completely a private visit and have checked into a posh hotel located on Puducherry coast. Priyanka who left Chennai by road was accompanied by her son.
When asked about her visit, former Union minister and Congress general secretary V. Narayanasami said the party had not been informed about the visit. “We are unaware of the Congress leader’s visit as it is a private visit,” he said.
According to airport sources, Priyanka preferred to move along with fellow passengers ignoring the usual security cordon. When she saw a huge gathering of lensmen at the airport, she just smiled at them and nodded a no to the waiting scribes. She also chose to avoid the protocol car brought in by SPG and preferred to exit the airport along with regular passengers ignoring the cordoned off VVIP exit.
Congress functionaries here in Chennai were told not to throng the airport as Priyanka was on a private visit.
