Kummanam Rajasekharan to broker peace ahead of poll
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan is all set to implement the RSS agenda of bringing back all former leaders of BJP, including P. P. Mukundan and K. Raman Pillai, to the party fold to face the forthcoming Assembly elections.
This is against the stiff opposition from former state president V. Muraleedharan, who does not see eye-to-eye with the stalwarts who are keeping off.
Mr Muraleedharan had even wanted to take disciplinary action against S. Suresh, BJP Thiruvananthapuram district president, for inviting Mr Mukundan to the protest meeting held at Martyrs' Square at Palayam here on Sunday against the SFI activists attacking T. P. Sreenivasan, vice-chairman of the State Higher Education Council.
Though former BJP state president and Janapaksham leader K. Raman Pillai too was invited to the protest meet, he did not attend it.
When Mr Kummanam's Kerala Vimochana Yatra reached Thrissur the other day, referring to the possibilities of Mr Mukundan returning to the party, he had said that 'Mukundan is not too far.' There has been pressure from the NSS camp also to take him back.
But owing to the resistance from Mr Muraleedharan and Mr S. Sethumadhavan, former RSS state Prantha Pracharak, his re-entry was being delayed.
But leaders like Mr T. G. Mohandas of Bharatiya Vichara Kendram and Mr P. R. Sasidharan, state organiser and Prantha Pracharak of RSS, were keen on his return before the Assembly elections.
"The RSS state leadership has already taken a decision to bring back Mukundan. They want the party to be strengthened before the Assembly elections. The chances of Mukundan contesting the Assembly elections cannot be ruled out," said a top BJP source.
NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair has also been batting for Mr Mukundan's return. Mr Mukundan was the only leader from the BJP fold to be invited to the 139th Mannam Jayanti celebrations at Perunna in Changanassery early last month.
A top BJP source told DC that the NSS leader was likely to hold talks with BJP national president Amit Shah on February 4 when he is scheduled to address a public rally at Kottayam coinciding with the Kerala Vimochana Yatra led by Mr Kummanam.
