Kakinada: In the aftermath of Kapu Ikya Garjana and subsequent violence at Tuni on Sunday, a 51-year-old man, Ch. Venkata Ramana Murthy, committed suicide here on Monday afternoon by hanging himself from a dish antenna at the collectorate.
According to the Three Town police, Ramana Murthy, a Kapu who was a motor mechanic of Rajiv Gruha Kalpa area, climbed atop the Bennet Club and hanged himself with a plastic wire. An employee informed collector H. Arunkumar and joint collector S. Satyanarayana who informed the police.
The Three Town police found a suicide letter in Murthy’s pocket.
No emotional acts: Mudragada
The suicide letter found stated that though Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu had promised inclusion of Kapus in the BC list, he did not implement it. He alleged that Mr Naidu wanted to suppress the Kapus and demanded that the CM fulfil his promise.
On hearing of the suicide, Kapunadu leader Mudragada Padmana-bham rushed to the Government General Hospital where Ramana Murthy’s body was shifted and consoled his relatives. He appealed to Kapu youths and the people of the community not to resort to such emotional steps.
He assured the Kapus that he along with his wife Padmavathi would go on an indefinite fast from February 5 if the government did not take steps for the inclusion of Kapus.
He urged the community not to lose confidence. Jaggampet MLA Jyothula Nehru also reached the spot and consoled the relatives of the deceased.
Mr Jyothula Nehru said that he supported the Kapu movement and people should not to take such steps.
