BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar and men abduct farmer

Prabhakar said the police was biased and dancing to the tunes of the TRS government..

Hyderabad: A kidnap case was registered against Uppal MLA N.V.S.S. Prabhakar and eight others for allegedly kidnapping a man who was searching for a rented house in the Ramanthapur area.

Police said that some BJP workers in the area saw him and found Rs 16,500 with him. Suspecting that he was distributing cash in connection with elections, they informed the MLA. Later, they took him to the MLA’s house, locked him up and attacked him. However, Mr Prabhakar denied the allegations and said the case was politically motivated. He said the police was biased and dancing to the tunes of the TRS government.

Police said the victim, Brahmadev Anand, 40, a farmer from Nalgonda, came to Ramanthapur on Monday to find a house on rent for his sister studying in Hyderabad. At around 11.30 am BJP activists saw him and found that he was carrying money.

They immediately called the MLA on the phone and said that some other party workers were distributing money to voters. The MLA told them to bring him to his house at Ramanthapur. Anand later filed a complaint with the police. Police registered a case of kidnap, criminal intimidation and extortion. “We will check facts and proceed according to that,” said Malkajgiri ACP M. Ravichandan Reddy.

Mr Prabhakar denied the charges and said that some women in Nehrunagar caught Anand red handed while he was offering money to them. “They brought him to my home and he admitted that he had distributed Rs 2 lakh. I informed the police and they took him. They asked the women to file a complaint. Later, the incident turned against me,” he said.

Holding the police responsible, he said that the police and other officials were biased. Prabhakar also filed a petition to the Governor on the incident.
