Telangana Rings in the New Year with Record-breaking Liquor Sales of Rs 700 Crores

New Year's Eve Liquor Sales Surpass Expectations as Wine Shops Extend Hours and Depots Stay Open to Meet Demand.

Hyderabad: Telangana marked the end of 2023 with a notable spike in liquor consumption, witnessing record-breaking sales between December 29 and 31, exceeding Rs 700 crore in the state.

The Telangana State Beverages Corporation (TSBC) reported significant figures during the New Year celebrations, selling 2.72 lakh cases of beer, wine, and hard liquor on December 28, escalating to 3.58 lakh cases on December 29, and reaching 5.8 lakh cases on December 30.

On December 31, TSBC depots distributed two lakh cases of liquor to outlets by the afternoon, estimated to be worth around 200 crores. In the four days leading up to the New Year, liquor stores collectively sold over 5.5 lakh cases of various liquors and 7 lakh cases of beer, contributing to an estimated Rs 758 crore in sales.

This surge in liquor sales during the last three days of December, from the 29th to the 31st, established a new sales record in the state, surpassing Rs 700 crore.

Unlike the typical increase in sales during festivals like Dasara and New Year's Eve, this time, the sales exceeded expectations, with event organizers and establishments proactively stocking up on liquor.

Wine shops extended their operating hours until midnight on December 31, and depots remained open on Sunday to meet the heightened demand.
