Telangana sells liquor worth Rs 172 crore on New Year Eve
Hyderabad: Telangana clocked liquor sales worth Rs 172 crore on December 31, Friday, on the eve of New Year 2022. Hyderabad alone accounted for Rs 23.13 crore. On December 31, last year, the total sales in Telangana were of Rs 155 crore. On December 31, 2019, the sales were even higher at Rs 210 crore.
Data obtained from the excise department on Saturday showed that tipplers across Telangana have guzzled 1.76 lakh cases of liquor and 1.66 lakh cases of beer on Friday. The government has earned Rs 30,222 crore in calendar year 2021 through liquor sales against Rs 25,602 crore in 2020.
Undivided Ranga Reddy district topped the state in liquor sales on December 31 at Rs 42.26 crore followed by undivided Warangal district at Rs 24.78 crore and Hyderabad district at Rs 23.13 crore.
The liquor sales witnessed a steep increase across the state from December 27. On that day, liquor sales crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at Rs 202.42 crore. The next day, liquor sales were of Rs 155.48 crore; on December 29 Rs 149.53 crore; on December 30 Rs 246.56 crore and December 31 Rs 172 crore.
While the total sales in calendar year 2021 were of Rs 30,222 crore, the sales in the last five days in December alone fetched Rs 902 crore to the state government.
The liquor sales in December 2021 across Telangana recorded an all-time high of Rs 3,459 crore in a single month.
Undivided Ranga Reddy district again topped the state in total annual sales in 2021, at Rs 6,979 crore, followed by Nalgonda at Rs 3,288 crore and Hyderabad Rs 3,210 crore.
