Hyderabad: 1 dead in New Year night's drunk driving

Both driver and pillion were not wearing helmets.

Hyderabad: In an incident of alleged drunk driving, a 22-year-old biker from Peddamberpet area died while his friend suffered injuries when the bike they were riding on towards Koheda, met with a road accident at Hayathnagar in Rachakonda during the wee hours on Tuesday.

In another road accident at Cyberabad, a man was killed and his friend injured when the bike they were riding on, lost control and rammed into the road divider at KPHB during the early hours of Tuesday.

According to Hayathnagar police, Koirivi Anil Kumar, 22, and his friend Y. Srikanth, both residents of Peddamberpet were heading to Koheda village on a bike. When the bike reached the main road near SC Boy’s hostel in Uppariguda, Anil, a driver by profession, lost control of the bike and it skidded on the road.

Anil and Srikanth both fell on the road with head injuries. The former died on the spot while the latter survived was rushed to a nearby hospital. The duo was reportedly drunk and not wearing helmets.

The police said that Srikanth was admitted to a private hospital for treatment and was stated to be out of danger. The body of Anil was handed over to his family after the autopsy at Osmania General Hospital on Tuesday. A police official said, “We suspect the dead Anil was drunk, but we are waiting for the autopsy report. We have registered a case for the probe.”

In the other road accident at KPHB, a 26-year-old man from Nizampet died and his friend received injuries when the bike they were travelling on towards Madhapur met with a road accident early Tuesday morning.

The KPHB police said D. Upendra 26, an unemployed youth along with his friend, Kiran, had started for Madhapur on a bike from Nizampet at about 4.30 pm. Upendra who was riding the bike rammed it on the road divider at KPH IV phase. The duo fell on the road and death was instant for Upendra.
