Officials claimed that although GHMC did not achieve the set target.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has set a target to collect Rs 700 crore in three months.

The civic body machinery, which was engaged with the Assembly elections for the last three months, has now started focussing on property tax collections.

Officials claimed that although GHMC did not achieve the set target, it would not only meet the expenditure incurred by the mega projects but would take up regular maintenance works.

They claimed that weekly property tax collection would be mandatory for taking up regular maintenance works like sanitation.

Having set a target of Rs 1,500 crore for property tax collection for the year 2018-19, the civic body has so far achieved a collection of Rs 847 crore. Through the early bird scheme, it could collect Rs 436.07 crore. However, for various election-related tasks such as revision of electoral rolls, enrolment of new voters and making arrangements for elections, the civic body machinery has been busy from August till December 12, according to a press release.

GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore issued orders during the last week on weekly property tax collection targets to the deputy commissioners.
