Mr Dubey said that before proceeding with the strike, power staff and engineers will hold a rally in Delhi.

Hyderabad: The National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees and Engineers has decided to observe a one-day nation-wide strike to protest the move by the Centre to introduce the Electricity Amendment Bill 2014 in Parliament.

All-India Power Engineers Federation chairman Shailendra Dubey said in a press note that they would go on a day’s strike if the Centre introduces the Bill in Parliament. Mr Dubey said that before proceeding with the strike, power staff and engineers will hold a rally in Delhi.

He said that 2.5 million power employees and engineers under banner of NCCOEEE have started a campaign against the Electricity Bill by holding regional and state-level conventions to mobilise consumers against anti-people provisions of the Bill.

He said that NCCOEEE noted with concern that the situation in the power sector was not showing any indication towards improvement, and the policies and steps were being adopted in the name of reforms actually favoured unscrupulous private players.
