Kerala government begins disbursal of Ockhi compensation

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the details of the missing were yet to be compiled.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state government on Monday disbursed Rs 20 lakh each to families of 25 fishermen killed in Cyclone Ockhi. Apart from this, Rs 2 lakh each from Prime Minister’s disaster relief fund was also disbursed.

The beneficiaries were identified as the families of Cyrus, S. Jayan, Muthappan, Marydasan, Xavier, Vincent and Shaji of Vizhinjam village; Sesilent, Anthony and Stellas of Kottukal village; Ratheesh and Joseph Koriya of Karumkulam village; Panithasan of Poovar village, Mary John and Alexander of Kulathoor village. The beneficiaries of Thiruvananthapuram taluk were families of Christy, Xavier, Lasar, Arogyadas, Epachan, Selvaraj, Abiyance, Silvappilla, Xavier and Gerald Carlos.

Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the details of the missing were yet to be compiled.

“As announced earlier, until it is compiled, interest from compensation set aside for the missing victims will be given to the families every month. Also, dependants of those who died will get a job based on their qualifications,” he said.

He said that those who won’t be in a situation to return to work would be appropriately rehabilitated. He said measures would be taken to ensure that such disaster would not affect citizens again.
