Hyderabad: Mini buses are good idea but boys crowd entrance
Hyderabad: The mini buses operated by TSRTC in areas such as Falaknuma, Rajendranagar, Midhani etc. have eased the problems of commuters, as these buses can pass through the narrow lanes of the Old City.
But college going girls and women say that the single door for men and women is at times misused by boys who purposely block the entrance especially during the morning and evening rush hours, just to bother women.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyanarayana said, “We have got information that there are some issues with mini buses but no cases have been registered till now. We are trying our best to provide security to women; constables from the police and She Teams are in civil uniform to nab the culprits.”
Ms Nasreen Fatima, a college student praises the mini bus for reaching areas normal buses can’t access, but she too has complaints about passengers. “The boys try to block the way purposely. During peak hours, a lot of boys stand on the footboard of the buses and it becomes difficult to board it.”
Bus conductor Ravi Kumar says he instructs boys not to stand on the footboard, "but they don't pay heed. If the bus is not full then I warn them to get inside as they are obstructing the way for women.”
Just because no incidents have been reported till now doesn't mean that they won’t happen in future, says Ms Geetha S of Shahali-banda. “The issues happen during peak hours and if a girl faces a problem she won’t report it thinking it’s a minor issue as we go through it every day,” she said.
