Bengaluru Metro's New Year joy: Extended run brings in 34,000 more users
Bengaluru: BMRCL’s move to run Namma Metro for extended hours on New Year’s Eve, to help those returning home safely after the revelry, has increased its ridership and revenue. It ran services till 2 am and after 10 pm trains were available at an interval of 30 minutes on both Green and Purple lines.
"On the Purple line from Byappanahalli to Mysuru Road, from 10 pm to 2 am, the ridership was 33,106. In the Green line from Nagasandra to Mantri Square and Sampige Road stations the number of people who used services during the extended time were 1,747," said Vasanth Rao, CPRO, BMRCL.
In total, 34,853 Bengaluru residents used Namma Metro while returning after celebrating New Year celebrations, during its extended timings.
“The Purple line gave us an added revenue of Rs 5,36,221 and the Green line Rs 23,141 giving. The cumulative revenue for the day was Rs 30,44,633 and Rs 9,15,820 respectively,” Rao said.
During New Year’s Eve the city witnesses an increase in the number of cases of drunk driving accidents, with people drivng home from parties in an inebriated state. The extended Metro services proved the citizens an option to have fun and return safe at night. The BMRCL had also run extended hours till 1 am on Christmas Eve.
