‘Upset’ over divorce, woman constable ends life in Kanchipuram
Chennai: A 37-year-old woman CBCID constable allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Vaiyavoor in Kanchipuram district, officials said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Gomathi (37), resident of Anna Avenue in Vaiyavoor. She worked as Grade I constable with the TN CBCID wing. Police said, Gomathi was separated from husband before six months, and was living with her father and 12-year-old daughter.
On Friday night, her father called the Kanchipuram taluk police station and informed them that the victim was not opening the door nor did she pick up phone calls. Police rushed to the spot and broke open the door. They found Gomathi hanging inside the room, a police officer said.
Her body was sent for a post-mortem to the Kanchipuram government hospital. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
Kanchipuram SP, Samundeshwari, arrived at the spot and conducted investigations. She spoke to the family members of the deceased, who did not level any allegations against anyone, police said.
Investigations revealed that Gomathi was married to Shiva Kumar of Tirupathur area. The couple has a 12-year-old daughter. Sources said that Gomathi started living separately from her husband since 2015, and recently the court granted them divorce. Police sources said upset over the divorce, the constable allegedly committed suicide.
Kanchipuram Taluk police registered a case under IPC section 174 (unnatural death) and are investigating.
