NIA raids at Tiruchy and Thanjavur, three detained
TIRUCHY / THANJAVUR: The officials of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) conducted a surprise raid at a house of one Sharfuddin (30) at Srinivasanagar extension at Tiruchy on Saturday.
Sources in the NIA said this raid was conducted as a follow-up measure to a similar raid conducted at a house of one Shahul of suburb Inamkulathur near Tiruchy during October and seized some sensitive documents from him.
The sources said Sharfuddin, a diploma holder was detained at the crucial juncture when he planned to leave for Dubai on Monday.
The NIA team later seized computers and mobile phones at the residence of Sharfuddin, thoroughly checked his passport, visa details and about his recent
visit to foreign countries. They then took Sharfuddin and his associate Jaffer into custody and took them to an unknown destination for further inquiry, the sources added.
In Thanjavur, four officials of NIA led by DSP Vijayakumar from Kochi checked the house of A. Alaudeen, (46) on Aattumanthai street at Keelavasal here on Saturday.
The NIA sleuths who arrived at the house at 6.30 am checked the cellular phones, lap top computers and later took Alaudeen to east police station for
interrogation.
The police said that Alaudeen was a member of Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) till a few years back. Recently he posted some messages on social media in support of ISIS.
Hence the interrogation, police said adding, it will go on for some days.
