Film City in honour of Rebel Star' at Mysuru
Bengaluru: Chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy announced on Friday that the Film City would be built in Mysuru and named after late actor/politician, M H Ambareesh.
“In Ramanagara we will have a Film University which will be named after (late Kannada movie icon) Dr Rajkumar,” he added.
Recalling his association with the “Rebel Star” at the function organised to pay tribute to him in the city, Mr Kumaraswamy revealed he started his film distribution journey with one of his films.
“He was really an ajaatshatru and a synonym for friendiship,” he added.
The issue of the Film City, which was originally planned to come up in Ramanagara, was raised by former CM Siddaramaiah at the event, who pointed out that it was Ambareesh’s wish to locate it in Mysuru.
“I hope the government will fulfill his desire. I have nothing to gain or lose from this,” he maintained and to his gratification Mr Kumaraswamy gave in. The mood in Ambedkar Bhavan was sombre as the politicians, who were there to pay tribute to Ambareesh, for once abandoned their signature rancour and recalled the man that he had been. The late actor’s wife Sumalata moved everyone with her simple and small tribute.
Wondering how to describe her departed spouse, she said, “I am confused, whether to see him as a husband, guide or friend. He was a good athlete too.”
Regretting that he didn't get to see his son's debut as he wanted, she choked and could not continue her speech. The hall went silent with people's eyes on the six ft tall picture of Ambareesh on the podium.
