Krishnapatnam port to host sailing competition

Some locals trained by sailing coaches of Indian Army at Krishnapatnam Port actively participated in the competitions.

Nellore: A State level Sailing (Yachting) Championship was held for the first time under the auspices of Navayuga Sailing Academy with the co-operation of the Yachting Association of AP and Nellore at the Krishnapatnam port on Thursday. The event was flagged off by Krishnapatnam Port CEO Anil Yendluri, District Sports Development Officer Ramanaiah and District Olympic Association Secretary Ramamoorthy. Apart from state level sailers, some locals trained by sailing coaches of Indian Army at Krishnapatnam Port actively participated in the competitions.

The Port CEO said they have made arrangements to organise national level sailing competitions from December 21 to 25 at Krishnapatnam where as many as 500 sailors are expected to take part. He said they are also planning to conduct international sailing competitions from December 27 to 31 at Krishnapatnam Port in whiche 250 sailors from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Iran, Germany, UK and Hong Kong would take part.

With respect to state level competition on Thursday, Amog bagged the first place, N. Vinay second place and E. Vishnukumar third place. In theo women's events, Tanishka Gaur bagged first place, B. Navya, second place and N. Vaishnavi stool third. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Anil Yendluri said, job opportunities are aplenty in organisations like Navy for the youth involved in sailing sports. He said the activity also gives boost to tourism in the region. He dwelt at length on the measures being taken by Krishnapatnam Port to develop water sports in the area. He expressed confidence in members of yacht clubs from the state bagging olympic medals in future.
