Tamil Nadu: Rains likely today and tomorrow
Chennai: The Indian Meteorological Department, in its cyclone warning, said “cyclone Nada” is expected to make its landfall between Vedaraniyam and Puducherry near Cuddalore on Friday. It is expected to bring rains to both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry from Thursday morning.
“The system is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a cyclonic storm (Nada) during next 12 hours. Winds up to the speed of 45 to 55 kilometre per hour are expected at Cuddalore, Karaikal and Puducherry when the cyclone hits the land,” S Balachandran, Director, Regional Meteorological Centre, told reporters.
Weather blogger Sai Praneeth told DC that the Western Ghats would also experience good rainfall under the influence of Nada. “After crossing Cuddalore, the cyclone will travel along Tamil Nadu to reach Arabian Sea. The moisture which gets trapped would yield heavy to very heavy rains to Nilgiris especially Coonoor (On December 4 and 5),” he added.
Fishermen in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry have been advised to not to venture into the sea for the next two to three days. Tamil Nadu Government also asked district collectors to take all “precautionary measures and necessary actions” to evacuate people from low lying and vulnerable areas to the relief centres.
District administration in Cuddalore, expected to borne much damage of the cyclone, has made elaborate arrangements including keeping boats on stand-by and evacuating people living to safety. Food packets have also been sent to places where people are expected to be moved to relief centres.
