Nellore: Fair price shops to supply essentials on credit basis

Nellore: In a bid to help the consumers, fair price shop dealers have been asked to provide essential commodities to white cardholders on credit basis for this month wherever the consumers are unable to pay small denomination notes.

The authorities initially planned to provide swiping machines to the 1,890 ration shop dealers in the district but due to delay in preparing software for the facility decision has been taken to provide the commodities on credit basis.

Joint collector A. Md. Imtiaz said there are also plans to make all the ration shop dealers as banking correspondents to the rural people to deposit or draw money through them.

He said that training being given in a massive level to all the government officials across the district besides students pursuing engineering and degree to make use of their services to create awareness on cashless transactions among public especially those living in rural areas.

According to the JC, students and faculty of 20 engineering colleges and 100 degree colleges in the district are being trained on using mobile and swiping machines for banking to use their services to create awareness among rural people on mobile and internet banking.

Since only 18 per cent of the population is using smart phones, training is being given to officers and students on using ordinary mobile phones for bank transactions through Mobile Money Identifier (MMID) method.

MMID is a seven digit random number issued by the bank upon registration. Remitter (customer who wants to send money) and beneficiary (customer who wants to receive the money) should have this MMID for doing this interbank funds transfer, Mr Imtiaz said.

In case of smart phones the users can dial *99*44# National Unified USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), Payments from mobile phone to get a secure and interactive menu on the mobile screen to access their bank account and transfer funds using Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) from the menu, the Joint Collector said.
