KANNUR: To avoid any unfortunate incidents in connection with the martyr’s day of K.T. Jayakrishnan master, Kannur police has made elaborate security arrangements. A total of 232 absconders were held as a precautionary measure, just 24 hours before the martyr’s day. Mr Jayakrishnan, a Yuva Morcha leader, was hacked to death inside the classroom on December 1, 1999.
Already, an all-party peace meeting has been called within all the police station limits, said the district police chief, hinting that the police was taking precautionary measures ahead of the day.
“In previous years, this day has always been known for some law and order disturbances in the district. Police seems to have made all security arrangements, preventive actions but are still apprehensive about it and also the traffic disruption happening in Thalassery town. All efforts have been made to ensure minimum inconvenience to the general public and keeping highway free from any congestion. Necessary traffic diversions have been arranged,” said district police chief Sanjay Kumar Gurudin.
Heavy vehicles would be restricted from 4 pm to 7 pm, and extra police personnel would be deployed to divert the slow movement of vehicles in Thalassery town, where the rallies are expected to create traffic chaos. A district level peace meeting was also called by district collector Mir Mohammed Ali and the district police chief.
