Kurnool: DNA evidence proves crucial in jailing rapist
Kurnool: A serial rapist has been convicted thanks to evidence obtained by DNA testing by Kurnool police officials who were investigating the rape of a seven- year-old girl last year. Kurnool One Town police apprehended Pathak Khaja Khan based on testing of DNA — which is unique to an individual.
The accused has now been convicted under sections 235 (2) of CrPC, and u/s 363 and 376(2) of Indian Penal Code by the First Additional Judge at Kurnool.
The police said on July 18 last year, Khaja Khan, the son of an auto driver in Kurnool town kidnapped and raped a minor girl while she was playing with her friends. Police said the child had suffered repeated rapes before she was released by the accused. The police sent smear samples from the victim’s body for DNA testing and analysis.
They had also sent the clothes of the victim for testing. The evidence submitted by the police also included samples from the body and clothes of the accused — including his underwear.
Later, the Kurnool general hospital doctor and other experts certified that the Andhra Pradesh Forensic Science Laboratory report showed genetic material from the accused was indeed present on the girl’s clothing that was submitted as evidence.
