DySP Ganapathi suicide: CBI submits report to court

The Madikeri court has transferred the case to special public representatives’ court in Bengaluru.

Mysuru: After over two years since the investigation began, CBI officers have submitted a report to Principle JMFC court in Madikeri on Wednesday related to the death of DySP Madapanda Kushailappa Ganapathi whose body was found hanging at a lodge in Madikeri.

The Madikeri court has transferred the case to special public representatives’ court in Bengaluru.

CBI officers led by DySP Ravi and advocate Subodh have submitted a 262-page report to the Court.

The content of the report is not known to local police or even to Ganapathi’s family as yet. But former speaker Mr K G Bopaiah quoting his sources said that CBI officers had submitted a ‘B’ report in the case.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Mr Maachaiah, brother of Mr Ganapathy said they are yet to get the copy of the report from the court. He said they would discuss on the steps to be taken with their advocate once they get a copy of the report. “But our advocate has clarified that we can question the report if it is contradicting our complaint”, he said.

“We do not know the exact content of the report. But according to a few sources, CBI officers have submitted a ‘B’ report. But if the report is contradicting the complaint, the complainants have the right and option to question it again in the Court. If it is a ‘B’ report, it will be an injustice to Mr Ganapathi as it gives rise to a lot of doubts. If it is a ‘B’ report, I will urge Ganapathi’s brother to submit an objection in writing,” former speaker Mr Bopaiah told reporters in Madikeri.

The body of DySP Mr M K Ganapathy was found hanging at Vinayaka Lodge in room number 315, on 7 July 2016, in Madikeri. Prior to his death, he had given an interview to a television channel in which he had accused ex-minister Mr K J George and two senior police officers Mr Pranab Mohanthy and Mr A M Prasad.

After CID submitted a ‘B’ report in the case, Kushalappa, father of Ganapathi moved the Supreme Court in an appeal to hand over the case to CBI. And it was in September 2017, that, Supreme Court had ordered for a CBI probe in the case. And the family had written to President of India, Prime Minister, Chief Minister, Home minister, for a speedy inquiry by CBI.

Mr Maachaiah also informed that retired judge Mr Keshavanarayana who took up the judicial probe in the case had also submitted a report to the government a year ago.
