The bench told the Pollution Control Board and the HMDA to file the reports explaining their role by next week.

Hyderabad: The GHMC on Wednesday informed the Hyderabad High Court that it had prepared an action plan to clean the lakes in phased manner.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice S.V. Bhatt was dealing with the pleas by IPS officer Anjana Sinha, social activist Lubna Saraswath and Sudhakar seeking protection of the Malkam Cheruvu in Serilingampally.

The authorities have identified Lotus Pond, Pedda Cheruvu of Khajaguda and Nacharam, Miralam Tank, and Rangadhamuni Tank at Kukatpally following the direction of the court to take up restoration works.

Placing the action plan before the bench, GHMC commissioner M. Dana Kishore said authorities would take steps to stop the discharge of sewage into the lakes and then initiate steps to treat the water.

Replying a query with regard to using the geotube technology to clean sewage in the lakes, he said they were exploring certain technologies.

The bench told the Pollution Control Board and the HMDA to file the reports explaining their role by next week.

GHMC counsel asked the court for a month to place the details of the steps taken in phases to clean the lakes.
