Chennai: Man held for bomb hoax call to train
Chennai: A bomb threat at Chennai central railway station kept policemen on their toes on Tuesday night. The threat later turned out to be a hoax.
A man weas arrested for misleading the police with the information that a bomb would go off on Chennai-Delhi train. Police arrested Imran Khan (30) a native of Uttar Pradesh, who resides at a private lodge on Naval road in Periampet.
According to police, around 1 am on Wednesday, the railway police control room received a call, with the caller informing the policemen on duty that a bomb had been placed on two coaches of Tamil Nadu Express.
The caller said, on Tuesday evening, he was traveling on Velachery MRTS when he heard two Hindi speaking commuters saying that the bombs were placed in two coaches of Delhi bound train.
The train was stopped near Guntur railway station in Andhra Pradesh.Immediately, the bomb detection and disposal of both police and railway protection force were alerted and the train was searched thoroughly.
Police confirmed the alert was a hoax and allowed the rain to depart after two hours. Another team began to search for the caller. The police traced his phone to a lodge on Naval road at Periampet.
A police team rushed to the lodge and arrested Imran Khan. Preliminary investigations revealed that he made the threat call as he was drunk. Further investigations are on to know his intentions.
