Bengaluru: Businessmen abducted, Boxer Manja held

Kailash filed a complaint with CCB and the sleuths arrested Manja and Ramu when they came to recover the money from him.

Bengaluru: A national-level boxer, who has become a rowdy, and his associate were arrested by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for allegedly abducting a cloth merchant in Chickpet to recover Rs 1.5 crore that he owed to his business partner.

The accused Manjunath alias Boxer Manja and Ramu abducted Kailash Jain on Oct. 25 allegedly on the instruction of his business partner after he refused to return the money.

The police said that Kailash had borrowed Rs 1.5 crore from his business partner Babulal. When Babulal demanded his money back, Kailash refused to return it. Babulal then hired Manja to abduct Kailash.

After the abduction, Manja and Ramu illegally detained Kailash in Mamulpet and released him only after he paid them Rs 3 lakh, with an assurance that the remaining amount would be paid soon.

Kailash filed a complaint with CCB and the sleuths arrested Manja and Ramu when they came to recover the money from him. Investigations revealed that Manja was working for the Cycle Ravi gang. After gaining notoriety, he formed his own gang and operated in Chickpet and Majestic areas, threatening and extorting businessmen. The police also registered a case against Babulal for hiring Manja to recover money illegally. Manja had participated at the national level boxing championship and won three awards. A rowdy sheet is also opened against him in Jayanagar police station.
