Karnataka: Speed governors in old vehicles opposed

Causes mechanical problems, says Lorry & Truck Drivers' Association

Bengaluru: The Lorry and Truck Drivers’ Association have opposed the state transport department's move to install speed governors in the trucks, as they claim it caused mechanical problems.

During a press meet on Tuesday, the association members said the transport department issued a notification on October 1 asking the lorries and trucks to install speed governors.

They said they cannot install them to the existing vehicles as it leads to problems and even the service stations are reluctant to repair such vehicles. “We, however, have no objection with installing speed governors in new vehicles. We will stage a protest transport department office on November 7,” they added.

Higher tax hits tourism
Ravindra, state president, Federation of Karnataka Tourist Taxi and Transportion, said higher road tax imposed by Kerala affects tourism.

“In 2015, the Kerala Government issued a circular that vehicles coming from Karnataka will have to pay higher road tax, when compared with vehicles coming from other states. This hampers tourism and logistics business and both the governments should resolve it.”

He also expressed concern over the increase in hypothecation fee and said he had approached then transport minister Ramalinga Reddy to reduce it. He called for early resolution of these issues.
