Visakhapatnam: Security beefed up due to Maoist bandh call
VISAKHAPATNAM: Tight security arrangements have been made vehicular check-ups intensified in Vizag Agency and along Andhra-Odisha border in view of the CPI(Maoist)-called 24-hour bandh on Thursday in five states to protest against the Malkangiri encounter. Andhra Pradesh DGP N. Sambasiva Rao on Monday held a video conference with the police officers in view the Maoist bandh call and asked the police officials to take all the precautionary measures to prevent untoward incidents.
The AP Greyhounds and Odisha police continued their combing operations along AOB. Meanwhile, two bodies of slain Maoists lying in Paderu mortuary were identified as Gautam and Satish of Kanker in Chhattisgarh. Superintendent of Police (Visakha Rural) Rahul Dev Sharma said they had sent photographs of the two dead Maoists to the police in Kanker for further identification and if nobody comes to claim the bodies, they would be buried on Tuesday morning as per the guidelines.
Sources said the cops had asked political leaders, traders, businessmen, civil contractors and top officials in the government to take all precautionary measures. Some politicians will be given additional police cover, while the rest have been told to not visit remote areas without informing the police.
