Telangana now sets eyes on Global Investors Meet

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman said states were ranked on the basis of a 340-point business reform action plan.

Hyderabad: The two Telugu states have created a record of sorts by becoming joint toppers in the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) rankings for 2015-16.

TS industries minister K.T. Rama Rao said the ranking has boosted TS morale. “We have now set our eyes on conducting the Global Investors Meet in early 2017 with a target to attract Rs 10 lakh crore investments from across the globe. The first rank will help us to make the event a grand success and attract large-scale investments.”

TS industries secretary Aravind Kumar said, “The periodic review of all departments during the last 10 months has paid off. We had good coordination with all departments to give faster approvals to industries, which yielded us the first rank.”

Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman said states were ranked on the basis of a 340-point business reform action plan and its implementation by the states covering the period from July 1, 2015, to June 30, 2016.

The other states that figured in the Top-10 list are Gujarat (3rd), Chhattisgarh (4th), Madhya Pradesh (5th), Haryana (6th), Jhar-khand (7th), Rajasth-an (8th), Uttarakhand (9th) and Maharashtra (10th).

The “leaders” category, with an implementation percentage of 90-100 per cent, includes the top ten ranked states, plus Odisha and Punjab (91.07 per cent).

The next category, of ‘aspiring leaders’, with an implementation rate of 70-90 per cent, includes Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar. This is followed by the ‘acceleration required’ category that includes Himachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Delhi.

India’s position in the recently released global EoDB ranking was a lowly 130, just one rank up from the previous year’s ‘revised’ 131.
