Bengaluru: Munirathna's open invite to seer triggers BJP's wrath
Bengaluru: Leaders of the city unit of BJP have decided to protest against Congress party MLA from Rajarajeshwarinagar, Munirathna, for offending Adichunchanagiri pontiff Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji, by inviting him to take over the reins of the administration from politicians.
At an event organized by Rajya Vokkaligara Sangha last week, Mr. Munirathna invited the seer to take over the administration as he felt that politicians had failed to rule the state well enough.
The seer who is revered by the Vokkaliga community, however, took umbrage and stated that the legislator’s statement was inappropriate.
In view of the seer expressing his displeasure about the statement of Mr Munirathna, the city unit of BJP decided to protest against him. When he heard about the protest led by former deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader R Ashok, Mr. Munirathna rushed to the residence of the leader and requested him to drop the move and not make an issue of the controversy. Mr. Ashoka, however, said he would abide by his party’s stand.
On Monday afternoon, Mr. Munirathna along with two other Congress party legislators, Byrati Basavaraja and S.T .Somashekar met the pontiff, and tendered an apology for the statement made at the Vokkaligara Sangha event held last week.
