Hyderabad: Thunderstorm brings rains

Upper air changes over Bay of Bengal.

Hyderabad: A thunderstorm formed over the north-eastern part of the city caused light rain in certain areas of the twin cities on Monday. Secunderabad, Begumpet and Banjara Hills received light rainfall in the afternoon. While light to moderate rain occurred on Diwali evening too, areas like Madhapur, Red Hills and Ameerpet received light showers. Director of the regional Meteorology department, Y.K. Reddy said, “The rainfall is due to the upper air circulation formed over the Bay of Bengal. Though the air circulation occurred at a distance place, it has a slight influence on Telangana state. The weather indication does not show any high-intensity rainfall for Telangana.”

The day temperature on Monday was recorded at 31.1 degree, but there were clouds. The forecast for the city from October 31 to November 2 is, “generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.” Across the districts, Gudurwargl (Warangal), Hakimpet IAF (Ranga Reddy), Aswaraopeta (Khammam), Aswaraopet (Khammam), Etur-nagaram (Warangal), Sarangapur (Karimnagar) and other isolated areas of Telangana received rainfall.

Officials from the met department said the trough of low at mean sea level over south-west Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast has become less marked. The associated upper air cyclonic circulation now lies over interior Tamil Nadu and adjoining areas of Kerala and South Interior Karnataka and extends up to 1.5km above mean sea level. The upper air cyclonic circulation over north Bay of Bengal extending up to 2.1km above mean sea level persists. The upper air cyclonic circulation over Malay Peninsula and surrounding areas now lies over the south Andaman Sea and neighbourhood and extends up to mid-tropospheric level. Under the influence of this, a fresh low-pressure area is very likely to form over south-east Bay of Bengal and its surrounding areas during the next 24 hours.
