GHMC policy asks you to pay & play
Hyderabad: The sports policy of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to encourage tax payers to make the best use of its infrastructure is slated to come into force from Tuesday.
It features an application to allow any school to book the GHMC’s sports facilities online at a nominal cost. The details are available on the GHMC website.
Educational institutions can book GHMC facilities on week days and government schools can avail the facilities free on Fridays.
Another objective was to make use of the facilities at staggered timings, to cater to the needs of general citizens, those from the business community and IT employees;
On weekends, the sports grounds, especially indoor stadiums, will be given to individuals or organisations on a nominal “pay and play” basis.
The GHMC has 12 sports complexes, seven swimming pools, and 521 playgrounds across the city.
GHMC commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy said, “It is mandatory for educational institutions to provide playgrounds for students. As open space is a constraint, educational institutions in the cities are often unable to afford them. The managements per se are not averse to encouraging sporting activities, but the real concern is availability of any sort of open spaces in the city.”
He said the situation gave scope for “out-of-the-box thinking on the part of the GHMC to make use of its vast infrastructure in a win-win model.”
The GHMC proposes to make best use of its sports infrastructure to benefit sports lovers at large in the city., the commissioner stated in a press release on Monday.
