APCC to press for Special Category Status in Parliament

Both the Union and state governments betrayed the people of AP, say leaders.

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) coordination committee meeting held here on Monday has unilaterally resolved to exert pressure on the Union government over Special Category Status (SCS), in the monsoon session of Parliament. Congress State affairs in-charge Digvijay Singh chaired the meeting and PCC chief Dr N. Raghuvera Reddy, Rajya Sabha member, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, former Union minister Pallam Raju and former MLA Malladi Vishnu participated in the meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, PCC president Raghuveera Reddy alleged that both the Union and state governments have betrayed the people of Andhra Pradesh on SCS and the party will take the same to the notice of the entire nation. The PCC president also questioned as to how the TD and BJP combine would remove the name of Indira Gandhi from Polavaram Project.

Before the coordination meeting, the leaders paid tributes to former home minister Sardar Vallabhai Patel on his 130th birth anniversary and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 32nd death anniversary. AP Women’s Congress chairperson, Sunkara Padmasree and other party leaders were present district president Moorupudi Dhanalakshmi, and Vijayawada city chairperson, Kemburi Lakshmi also participated in the meeting.
