Bengaluru: The Phase 2 of Namma Metro has run into rough weather as the Bangalore Metro Railway Corporation Ltd is struggling to get land acquisition issues resolved.

The project that has missed several deadlines and is likely to be delayed further. BMRCL officials said, “The high court recently stayed the acquisition of NICE land for the RV Road-Bommasandra corridor. The Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) has to fix the compensation to be paid for the lands required for Mysuru Road-Kengeri, Nagasandra-BIEC and Yelachenahalli-Anjanapura corridors. All these issues may lead to a delay in the competition of the project.”

The forest and environment ministry has given Stage I clearance for the forest land in Kadugodi which will house the Whitefield depot.

The ministry has informed BMRCL to get the compensatory afforestation lands declared as a reserve or protected forest area before giving Stage II clearance. The underground sections of Gottigere-Nagawara corridors and the Vellara Junction are facing delays.

“We know that BMRCL will miss most of its deadlines. But we request the government to take serious steps to expedite the land acquisition process because in today's situation we very much need to get metro connectivity,” said Jeshta, a regular Metro commuter.
