Hyderabad: Peak hour frequency 3.5 minutes

Footfalls were expected to touch the 2 lakh mark on Sunday with about 1.8 lakh paid passengers, according to a senior official.

Hyderabad: With the city embracing Metro Rail, seen in the increasing number of passengers, Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited inducted additional trains on Sunday evening with a frequency of 3.5 minutes from 5 pm to 7 pm on the Miyapur-LB Nagar Corridor I.

“This kind of running trains with shorter frequency will be continued from Monday during the morning and evening peak hours, depending on the rush, on the Miyapur-LB Nagar corridor to begin with", said HMR managing director N.V.S Reddy.

On Sunday, three additional trains trips were run from Dilsukhnagar (towards Miyapur) and KPHB (towards LB Nagar) for even distribution of commuters.

Mr Reddy said that footfalls were expected to touch the 2 lakh mark on Sunday with about 1.8 lakh paid passengers and the remaining being Metro Rail staff. He added that senior citizens and women were travelling in groups to have the Metro Rail experience.

“They are expressing their gratitude for providing them freedom to travel on their own without any one’s help or support,” Mr N.V.S. Reddy said.

One such group came from the Krishna Kant Park Senior Citizens Walkers Association. Association president Dr K. Padmanabham along with Justice A. Hanumanth, a retired High Court Judge, chief engineer Ganapathi Rao, Prof. Adi Murthy of Warangal travelled on a Metro Rail service.

HMRL has put up fence to allow senior citizens easy access to the designated coaches apart from the already existing coaches for women.
