Ayush doctors prone to make mistakes

IMA members said they would oppose the proposals as it could affect modern medicine.

Hyderabad: Crosspathy, registration of non-medical persons and bridge courses for Ayush doctors where the syllabus includes modern medicine are the main concern of the Indian Medical Association (IMA).

Senior doctors said the government was under pressure from Ayush doctors and registered medical practitioners in rural areas who want to do the bridge course and get certified as doctors. A senior doctor said that a number of coaching centres would come up for the bridge courses, which would be another source of revenue. “They fail to see whether these doctors will improve the health of the nation or ruin it. We foresee a generation of sub-standard doctors as checks will be ignored,” he said.

“This is going to be a disaster as there will be more mistakes. Due to the attitude of the people, recognised centres will not take up botched cases as they will be blamed. It is going to be a setback for the patient,” the doctor explained.
