Bengaluru rain death: Kin to get Rs 5 lakh relief
Bengaluru: The newly elected Mayor, Sampath Raj, announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the next of kin of 36-year-old Raja, who died when his house collapsed after a heavy downpour on Friday night at Hoodi.
This is the fourth death in the city this year due to rains. The Mayor visited the spot and initially paid Rs 25,000 in cash (amount pooled in from his pocket and local corporator) on humanitarian grounds and said that a cheque of Rs 5 lakh will be soon released to the family of the deceased.
“It is an unfortunate death. During my visit I found that there are many houses in the locality which are built by placing hollow bricks one above the other, without any binding by cement or even mud. I have directly the official concerned to immediately move out people living in such houses and provide them a temporary arrangement,” Sampath said.
“I have already met the Tahsildar too. The house Raja was residing was built on a government land. It will be regularised in accordance with the newly inserted section 94C of Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964,” he added.
