BJP Has No Plans Yet for Early Polls, Says Laxman

HYDERABAD: The BJP government at the Centre currently has no plans to go for an early election and there is no information on the agenda for the special session of the Parliament later this month, Rajya Sabha, and BJP’s Parliamentary Board member Dr K Laxman said on Friday.

Speaking with reporters in New Delhi in the morning, Laxman said the BJP government has fulfilled almost all the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. “There are two issues still pending, that of Uniform Civil Code, and one nation-one election mooted by the Central government. In this backdrop, the special session has certainly assumed a lot of importance and significance,” he said.

“We will implement all the issues on our agenda, discussions are ongoing on the Uniform Civil Code issue and the Law Commission has already sought the views of the people. As many as 99 percent of people are in favour of UCC,” he said.

With respect to one nation-one election, Laxman said this will cut down on avoidable costs for multiple elections and contribute to savings of the exchequer. “Many parties are in favour of holding simultaneous elections to the Parliament and state Assemblies,” he said.
