BENGALURU: The lone Lok Sabha member of Janata Dal Secular (JDS) Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda, was on Friday disqualified as an Member of Parliament by the High Court of Karnataka, over furnishing false details in his affidavit filed during the Lok Sabha election held in 2019.

One of the petitioners Devaraje Gowda, a Hassan based advocate said that he proved with documents over the corrupt practices in the Hassan Lok Sabha election of 2019 and the High Court disqualified Prajwal Revanna as an MP. Accordingly, the People’s Representation Act bars an disqualified MP from contesting elections for 6 years.

Another petitioner A. Manju said "I had sought justice and got it" over Prajwal's false affidavit. When intercepted by media persons, Prajwal Revanna evaded the media persons for his reaction over his disqualification.

It may be recalled here defeated Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) nominee A. Manju and advocate of Hassan Devaraje Gowda petitioned the High Court seeking disqualification of JDS Lok Sabha member alleging corrupt practices in the 2019 Lok Sabha election of Hassan Lok Sabha seat. Presently, one of the petitioner A. Manju is now in JDS to which disqualified MP Prajwal Revanna belongs.

A. Manju joined JDS ahead of the Assembly election this year quitting BJP and was elected from Arkalgudu assembly constituency in Hassan. Earlier, A. Manju was in the Congress party and served as Minister for Animal Husbandry in Siddaramaiah government (2013-2018).

In 2018, JDS and Congress forged an alliance and formed the State Government. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, JDS and Congress party forged alliance to fight the parliamentary elections together and as per the seat sharing agreement, Hassan parliamentary seat was given to JDS.

Unwilling to spare the Hassan seat to JDS, an enraged A. Manju quit the Congress party and joined the BJP and he was made the party nominee to contest from Hassan Lok Sabha seat. Manju then had stated he had no problems to spare the Hassan Lok Sabha seat to JDS supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Devegowda but not to others. Devegowda had represented the Hassan MP seat undefeated since 2004.

In the 2019 parliamentary election, Devegowda sacrificed his Hassan seat to make way for his grandson Prajwal Revanna and Gowda contested from Tumakuru Lok Sabha seat. Gowda was defeated by BJP nominee G.S. Basavaraju.

In the election results for Hassan Lok Sabha seat, JDS nominee Prajwal Revanna, son of former minister H.D. Revanna defeated his nearest rival A. Manju of BJP. Accusing Prajwal Revanna of hiding facts over his income in his election affidavit, A. Manju knocked at the doors of the High Court seeking disqualification of Prajwal Revanna.
