SCR’s Rayanapadu workshop bags CII-IGBC award

CII-IGBC had invited organisations to participate in its \'8th CII National Award for Environment Best Practices – 2021\'

Vijayawada: Implementation of green initiatives has earned South Central Railway (SCR) additional recognition with its Wagon Workshop at Rayanapadu receiving the “Most Innovative Environmental Project” award conferred by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) – Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). The award is mainly for innovative practices being implemented in overhauling of wagons at the Rayanapadu workshop.

CII-IGBC had invited organisations to participate in its “8th CII National Award for Environment Best Practices – 2021”. Among 200 applicants, 36 companies had been shortlisted for making presentations about their projects. Among them, Rayanapadu Wagon Workshop has been adjudged as the most innovative environmental project and awarded a trophy and certificate.

SCR general manager Gajanan Mallya congratulated chief workshop manager, Rayanapadu, and his team for obtaining the coveted CII-IGBC certification. Mallya also appreciated the workshop’s determined efforts in maintaining greenery norms in their day-to-day working. The GM expressed happiness for consistent initiatives by all SCR divisions and workshops in ensuring eco-friendly measures at their locations, which help protect environment and reduce carbon emission.

Wagon Workshop, Rayanapadu, located near Vijayawada city, is one of the premier and modern workshops of Indian Railways for carrying repairs on broad gauge goods wagons, such as open, covered, flat and tankers, used for transporting different types of commodities. The workshop has much higher green cover as compared to other industries located in its surrounding areas.

Earlier, in February 2021, the workshop received Green Co-Platinum rating from CII- IGBC for having eco-friendly sustainable resource conservation machinery, like welding simulator, roller bearing cleaning plant, and multi-stage robotic distributor valve cleaning equipment. These machines reduce human interface in cleaning intricate parts of distributor valves, apart from macro and micro particles; thereby achieving cleanliness levels up to 130 microns.
