Tiruchy: Coops urged to hike milk production

Mr. Karthikeyan assured that he and a team of officials of the dairy development department will visit every milk society across the district.

TIRUCHY: Mr. C. Karthikeyan, chairman of the Tiruchirapalli district Milk Producers Cooperative Union (Aavin) justified the price hike of Aavin milk and called upon the milk producers to increase the milk production as well improve the quality of Aavin milk further.

A release from Aavin said here on Saturday that, Mr Karthikeyan made this observation while addressing a meeting to discuss the ways and means for increasing milk production as well as improving the quality of the milk with the milk producers and the officials of the dairy development department at Tiruchy on Friday.

He said per day 'Aavin' at Tiruchy was procuring more than three lakh litres of which 1.05 lakh liters of milk meant for local consumption, and sending 1.60 lakh litres of milk to Chennai, 15,000 litres of milk to Pudukkottai and Thanjavur districts, besides another 20,000 liters of milk was sent for producing value-added products.

Mr. Karthikeyan assured that he and a team of officials of the dairy development department will visit every milk society across the district and sort out the problems like cattle feed shortage faced by the milk producers.
