SALEM: The perils of taking medical facility to the doorsteps of hill tribals once again came to the fore near Salem with an expectant mother delivering a baby even as she was being driven in a '108 Ambulance' past midnight on Friday.
Banumathi, 26, wife of a daily wager, complained of severe labour pain late on Thursday night. Her husband Sreenivasan called '108 ambulance' to reach their home at Sembur, 17 km from the nearest GH.
An ‘108 Ambulance’ was held up on the ghat road as a truck was stranded following a break-down. Soon, Sreenivasan lifted his wife into the ambulance. As they started, Banumathi delivered a male baby in the ambulance itself.
