Rs 536 crore for permanent relief work in Kodagu

All measures were being taken to shift those in the low lying areas to safer ground.

Mysuru: Kodagu in-charge minister, Suresh Kumar said on Saturday that Rs 536 crore had been allotted for permanent relief measures in the district devastated by the recent floods and landslides and all measures were being taken to shift those in the low lying areas to safer ground.

“We are also taking measures to build side- walls to prevent floods wherever needed in the district,” he added. The minister, who offered baagina to the river Cauvery at Harangi dam as a gesture of thanksgiving to mother nature for the heavy rain that had filled the reservoir in mid- August, noted that a Central team had visited Kodagu to assess the damage and Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa had also provided details on the flood situation to the Prime Minister.

“All the cabinet ministers led by the Chief Minister will urge the Prime Minister to release funds soon for flood relief during his visit to Karnataka on September 7,” he said.

Denying former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's allegation that the BJP was indulging in hate politics by using Central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate against Congress leader, D K Shivakumar, Mr Kumar said on the contrary he wished Mr Shivakumar well.
