Karnataka floods: BSYediyurappa’s powerpoint show to impress PM Modi for more funds

Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Karnataka for two days from September 7.

Shivamogga: Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa said here on Saturday that a power- point presentation would be made on the devastation caused by the recent floods and landslides in the state during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Karnataka on September 7 and 8 to help the government get more funds from the Union government for relief operations.

The power point presentation would be made at the Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru, the chief minister said.

Recalling that a Central team had visited the flood -hit parts of the state, Mr Yediyurappa said that he was confident his government would get more funds from the Union government to help overcome the crisis.

Mr Yediyurappa, who was in Shivamogga on his way to Haveri district to assess the flood damage there, told reporters that the Union government was expected to release funds to the state after the study team, which was in Karnataka, submitted its report in a day or two.

“There has been huge crop loss and about a lakh houses have been damaged in the floods,” the chief minister added.

Later, at a meeting with the zilla panchayat, the Chief Minister said Rs 500 crore had already been released for the relief work and Shivamogga district had received Rs 10 crore towards it.

Moving on, the chief minister said that the state government had released Rs 39 crore for the initial work on the Shivamogga airport, which was important to attract more industries to the district and create more job opportunities for its people.
