Hyderabad: Man misbehaves with woman on ventilator

Achyuth Rao, 55, misbehaved with the pregnant patient who couldn’t complain as she was on a ventilator.

Hyderabad: A 50-year-old male attendant at the Century Super Specialty Hospital in Banjara Hills misbehaved with a 30-year-old pregnant woman who was undergoing treatment in the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU).

According to the police, the pregnant woman was admitted to the hospital for a high risk pregnancy. She also had swine flu. She was operated upon on August 26 and shifted to the ICU and was on a ventilator taking oxygen through the mask.

Banjara Hills inspector Kalinga Rao said that the 50-year-old male attendant Achyuth Rao entered the emergency ward the same night and misbehaved with the patient. As she was on the ventilator she couldn't explain her ordeal to her relatives.

On Saturday, when she was taken off the ventilator, she narrated what had happened to her husband who complained to the hospital management and lodged a complaint with Banjara Hills police.

The police have booked a case under section 354 IPC (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and have taken the accused into custody.

The relatives of the pregnant woman staged a protest in front of the hospital and blocked traffic on Banjara Hills rad on Saturday.
