Hyderabad: The Rachakonda SHE team police booked 48 cases for harassing women, and apprehended 37 men and eight minors in August.

In the first case, the She teams arrested a 27-year-old doctor, Sanjay, who harassed a 22-year-old housewife. The doctor proposed marriage but she rejected him and married another person, the SHE teams said in a release.

After her marriage, Sanjay started harassing her by sending morphed pictures of her and posting them on social media. He also began repeatedly calling her over the phone and threatening her to stay with him by leaving her husband otherwise dire consequences would follow.

Police said Sanjay also called the victim’s husband and floated rumours on her character. Unable to bear this, the victim lodged a complaint against Sanjay under Section 354D (any man who follows a woman and contacts, or attempts to contact her to foster personal interaction) of the Indian Police Code at the Vanasthalipuram police station. The accused was arrested and remanded, the release said.

In a case of sexual harassment at the workplace, 25-year-old junior engineer working at Yadadri lodged a complaint against a manager in company.

She told the police that the accused hugged her from the back forcefully and passed indecent comments on her. Although she warned the manager, he didn’t stop the sexual harassment. The victim approached the Yadadri police who booked a case under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 354D and arrested him, the press release said.

SHE teams of Bhongir, LB Nagar and Malkajgiri team conducted decoy operations and arrested men who were harassing school- and college-going girl students by passing lewd comments.

The SHE teams also booked cases on harassers following complaints received over WhatsApp and other electronic fora from different areas of Rachakonda while they were harassing girls at different points like Metro Rail trains, junctions, bus stops, working places and colleges of the Rachakonda police commissionerate.
