10,000 CCTVs will be installed in Tiruchy
TIRUCHY: The Tiruchy police are in the process of installing 10,000 CCTV cameras across the city to check crimes, of which 1,000 CCTV cameras have been already installed. These cameras are being closely monitored from the city police control room, according to Tiruchy police commissioner Dr A. Amalraj.
He was speaking to newsmen here on Saturday, on the sidelines of a function to present a cash award of Rs 10,000 to an auto-rickshaw driver of Perambalur, who helped to nab a robber who took away Rs 16 lakh in cash from the employees of a private organisation meant for uploading into a bank ATM at Tiruchy recently. He appealed to the local residents to install CCTV cameras in front of their houses.
Dr Amalraj said, this year so far 26 chain snatching incidents have taken place in the city as against 42 such incidents last year.
To a question, he said they have given permission to install Lord Ganesh statues at 244 places in the city in connection with Ganesh Chathurthi festival on September 2.
Dr Amalraj also handed over 35 mobile phones which were recovered by the police from robbers, to their original owners.
