Two more bodies recovered, toll touches 22 in Madikeri

Mysuru: Two more bodies of people killed in the recent landslides that devastated the coffee land of Kodagu have been recovered over the last couple of days, taking the death toll in the rain induced disaster to 22. The body of 62 -year-old Mukattira Sabu Uthappa of Moovathoplu village in Madapur was found on August 28 and that of 59- year- old Gilbert Medonza of Kaatageri village, on August 29.

But two more people, 42- year- old Harish Kumar of Hebbaale village and 15- year- old Manjula of Jodpala village are still missing. While 1,888 people remain in 17 relief camps, most of the 7,594 who had sought shelter in 51 relief centres, have now returned home with the situation returning to normal in the district .

Connectivity, which was the worst hit in the district, is also being restored, according to Kodagu deputy commissionr, P I Srividya. KSRTC and mini buses have resumed operation both within the district and long distance to Mysuru, Benglauru and Sullia. Meanwhile, the Kodagu district administration has made arrangements to accommodate college students, who lost their homes in the recent disaster, in 13 lodges in Madikeri.
