Chennai: Health minister C. Vijaya Baskar and other health officials conducted a discussion with Japan-based health higher-ups and professors from International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School Japan here on Friday.
Among others who participated in the meeting were Kenji Aya of Prime Minister's Office of Japan, Dr Megumi Kodaira, First Secretary of Embassy of Japan and Yasunori Yawata , Associate Professor International University of Health and Welfare Graduate School, Japan.
The team visited the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH), Nurses' Training Centre at K K Nagar and the Institute of Child Health and Children's Hospital in Egmore and they also interacted with the hospital staff about functioning of hospitals and providing treatment to the patients.
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has funded for many health programmes in the state to improve the infrastructure at hospitals located across the state. "An amount to the tune of Rs 1,634 crore has been allotted for the purpose alone," said a health official.
Later, Vijaya Baskar addressed the media and pointed out that that the Indian and Japan governments have joined hands and many schemes relating to health sector have been implemented.
"We will take health staff from Tamil Nadu to Japan soon to know about Japan's handling in health sector," the minister noted.
