TN Education Minister promises action on TET scam

In an expose on Wednesday, Deccan Chronicle brought out the scam unearthed by Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB).

Namakkal: School education minister K.A. Sengottaiyan assured that severe action would be initiated against candidates involved in Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) scam.

While participating at a function in Namakkal on Friday he said, "As many as 192 persons were found to be involved in the scam and the government will initiate legal action against them."

In an expose on Wednesday, Deccan Chronicle brought out the scam unearthed by Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB).

Following complaints fr-om the candidates, the board has re-scanned 7.53 lakh OMR answer scripts of TET Paper I and Paper II exam and uploaded the revised qualified candidates' list with certificates recently.

It was found out that more than 200 candidates were qualified with fake marks. "The board has blacklisted the candidates who were found to be involved in the scam and they cannot appear for any recruitment exam in future," sources said.

Sources reveal that the marks of these candidates were inflated up to 100 marks to make them qualify in the test and subsequently enabled them to get selected for government teacher posts.

It appears that the candidates' marks were manipulated using the separate OMR answer sheets. But, the board which had kept the original answer scripts was able to re-scan and verify the details.

Datatec Methodex Private Limited, an outsourcing company which was contracted for scanning of OMR answer scripts for TET scam was suspected to be manipulated the marks. The employees of the company were already arrested in connection with the polytechnic lecturers scam uncovered by TRB last year. The Central Crime Branch is currently inquiring about the case.

Reacting to the scam report, PMK founder Ramadoss has demanded CBI inquiry into the scam.
