Hyderabad: More foot over-bridges by September end
Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to put four more foot over-bridges (FoBs) into use by September end. A swanky FoB at Banjara Hills Road No.2 was opened this February. More such structures are coming up at the National Police Academy, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and PNR Mall, Kukatpally bus stop. The FoB work at Mahaveer Hospital will be completed soon and start functioning by month end. To facilitate the elderly and the specially-abled, modern FoBs will have elevators and escalators. Detailed project reports are being prepared for 12 more FOBs.
For long, those covering distances on foot have remained a neglected a lot and in the absence of proper facilities, struggle to cross roads at major junctions. Many a times, reaching the other side of the road at busy junctions turns out to be a precarious affair, as it involves carving out a route amidst speeding vehicles. The concept of pedestrian signals at some junctions too have failed. The civic body, which for some time has been working on setting up FoBs, is now ensuring these come with lifts, surveillance cameras, drinking water facility and other amenities.
“The works on these two FoBs are at an advanced stage of completion and we hope to open them by September end,” said a GHMC official.
Besides, works on setting up FoBs at NSL Divyasri, Raidurg and Miyapur crossroads are moving at a brisk pace. Officials said they were working with a target of providing the facility at 12 places in the next six months. In all, the GHMC plans to set up 50 FoBs across the city.
Detailed project reports are being prepared for 12 more FOBs. Depending on the location and size, each FoB will cost around Rs.1 crore. While five FoBs are being taken up with GHMC funds, the rest of the structures will be in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.
